If you have read my year in review earlier this month it will come as no surprise that this year has for me been the year of flight. It is then only fitting that the photo of this year features flight.
I took this photo in Westport, Co. Mayo during an air display. It was their first airshow and my first time visiting the town. It was also the first time that an air display in Ireland featured two remotely operated consumer aircraft as part of the display.
In the photo you can see Gerry Humphreys’ aircraft, who over the past five years has inspired me with all his flying skills. You can see him soaring along Croagh Patrick here, looking humble.
Croagh Patrick is known for the annual pilgrimage, a 7km long walk up and down the mountain. During a good part of this year life was challenging and at times it felt like I was climbing an endless mountain.
I will return to the area next year, and perhaps even climb Croagh Patrick, by foot or by feet. There is an enormous amount of natural beauty to be found in the area, and I want to see it all.
